Blog 9/8/’14

Good morning Monday! Lean in… My first blog post of September. The reason that it took me so long to post a consistent blog is because I really wasn’t sure what to write. I’ve been assured that my blog can be anything and everything I want it to be so that’s what I will attempt to do but would love feedback from you as to what you might specifically be interested to read. Where my life and my story are concerned, running out of writing material is not a challenge for me. For many of you familiar with my memoir Not So Black and White, I can pull from an array of topics. There’s showbiz (a lot of people hate that word but I actually like it), there’s the story about my interracial parents who were ballet stars in Europe, there’s how I eventually grew up with two fathers since the age of eleven, there’s mental illness, AIDS, and grief but most importantly it’s about how the element of LOVE has always pulled me out of challenges to preserver. OR I could just share my day to day as a female entrepreneur and mother of two daughters, married to a very busy musician and our crazy lives just trying to make the right choices and stay afloat. I guess I will just see where it leads…

I can tell you that today I am a little behind in my day but eager to make tracks as I have a lot to get done and prepare for in the coming months. That’s the “work” part. However, on the emotional and more philosophical end, I am feeling grateful to have another day to do it better than yesterday and motivated to dream bigger! I look out of my window now as I sit at my desk and the clear blue sky is perfection. The outside is still waiting and ready for the day to begin and I feel inspired to unleash all that might be necessary to ensure that it’s a great day. And I’m hoping the same for each one of you… Carpe diem!! XX

Good morning Tuesday! Lean in… I am finally committing to my blog!! Took a while but here I am. 🙂

As I prepare for the new season to officially begin, I am reminded of the terrific and challenging memories of this summer 2014! Each summer we try to make a trip back to New York, where we still have roots, to visit with friends and revisit the city that we love! This summer was no different but different. We spent time with a dear friend and the talented woman to direct me in my one woman show, in The Hamptons. We had such a relaxing time by the pool, eating, eating, and eating delish food, going to the ocean, and gettin’ some extra color! We laughed, were silent, and also talked a little shop. All in all was a wonderful time had by all kids and adults. It was also a challenging summer met with personal obstacles and needed growth: the next chapter of growing pains 😉 I love “rich” anything: rich food, rich color, rich fabrics, and rich summers. This was definitely such a summer. Although it breezed by more quickly and with undetectable stealth than we all would have wanted, it was good and rich!

Stay tuned for my next entry, at the start of September, when I kick off all creative stuff in the works that I’m excited to share with all of you! Until then, squeeze out every drop of August and re-emerge with guns blazing! 😉

Good morning last day of 2012! Lean in.. I thought I would share a poem that I love and that I feel really embodies the spirit of my husband, whom I have tried to steal the best from ;) I re-read it and am always aware of how much work I still need to do. I share it with all of you, hoping it will inspire the very best in all of US in 2013!!-

“Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you. ”

Could you tell us what your creative process is like? Do you need an empty house? Do you need to leave the house? How do you prep your creative juices? Mental/writing exercises? Do you have an office where you write? Or are you in bed with your notes sprawled around you and that “must have” cup of tea/coffee that sits besides you..? Take us into your world of “gettin’ down to it”.
    Thanks!
